BOOK REVIEW: Legend (Legend #1) by Marie Lu

Summary:
What was once the western United States is now home to the Republic, a nation perpetually at war with its neighbors. Born into an elite family in one of the Republic’s wealthiest districts, fifteen-year-old June is a prodigy being groomed for success in the Republic’s highest military circles. Born into the slums, fifteen-year-old Day is the country’s most wanted criminal. But his motives may not be as malicious as they seem.

From very different worlds, June and Day have no reason to cross paths—until the day June’s brother, Metias, is murdered and Day becomes the prime suspect. Caught in the ultimate game of cat and mouse, Day is in a race for his family’s survival, while June seeks to avenge Metias’s death. But in a shocking turn of events, the two uncover the truth of what has really brought them together, and the sinister lengths their country will go to keep its secrets.

Full of nonstop action, suspense, and romance, this novel is sure to move readers as much as it thrills.

My thoughts:
I read this book WAY before I started my blog but, man, do I still love this book. I saw it sitting there, along with the rest of my books, just starring at me. Mocking me. It kept whispering "Estefania! ESTEFANIA!! REVIEW ME!!" So, I figured, what the hey, why not?
The plot was really really interesting. It's sortta the typical distopian, where something is wrong with the government, and there's a plaque and stuff like that, but Marie Lu's writing style was just amazing. There where a fare amount of twists and turns in this book, plus, the world building was really well paced. There was no dragging in the book, and felt like i knew what was going on! Like I actually understood the world that Marie Lu had created.
Now the characters! Day (male protagonist) the Republic's most notorious criminal, was good-looking (always a good thing, right?) and he was smart, sweet, and tough! He steals, gambles, and is an overall badass. His entire life was a risk, yet he tried to help his family when he could!
June (female protagonist),the military prodigy. The Republic's greatest prodigy, their perfect little soldier, is said to be a genius and she follows through. She is bathed in riches, attention, and a good education. Yet, she is always getting in trouble for trying to perform at her highest level.
What really threw me off, was there age! i thought they where both gonna be 18 or 19 years old! But they where only 15! Both of them! They just don't sound like it, though! they sound so much more mature! I understand that Marie Lu is trying to make them seem more mature fore there age, but that really blew my mind!
I did feel like there was a bit of inta-love in the book, though. Because of that, I had to deduct a star. I would have also wanted to know more about the history, and why the Republic and the Colonies hate each other, though, this is a trilogy, so we will probably get more of this later on in the series. Which reminds me! Prodigy (the 2nd book) is coming out in 2 days! I definitely need that book!
Without hesitation I'd put it up there with The Hunger Games and The Divergent Series. Call me crazy, but I would!  I'm not saying it will change your life, but it definitely won't disappoint you. :)

Quotes:

“Each day means a new twenty-four hours. Each day means everything's possible again. You live in the moment, you die in the moment, you take it all one day at a time. -Day”
Marie Lu, Legend

“You should have taken me with you," I whisper to him. Then I lean my head against his and begin to cry. In my mind, I make a silent promise to my brother's killer.

I will hunt you down. I will scour the streets of Los Angeles for you. Search every street in the Republic if I have to. I will trick you and deceive you, lie, cheat and steal to find you, tempt you out of your hiding place, and chase you until you have nowhere else to run. I make you this promise: your life is mine.”
Marie Lu, Legend

“What a joke! Poor little rich girl's fallen in love with the Republic's most famous criminal.”
Marie Lu, Legend

“Few people ever kill for the right reasons, June. Most do it for the wrong reasons. I just hope you never have to be in either category.”
Marie Lu, Legend

“Well...can't be any more dangerous than your crazy hospital break-in yeah?"-Tess ”
