BOOK REVIEW: Altered by Jennifer Rush

Summary:
When you can’t trust yourself, who can you believe?

Everything about Anna’s life is a secret. Her father works for the Branch at the helm of its latest project: monitoring and administering treatments to the four genetically altered boys in the lab below their farmhouse. There’s Nick, Cas, Trev . . . and Sam, who’s stolen Anna’s heart. When the Branch decides it’s time to take the boys, Sam stages an escape, killing the agents sent to retrieve them.

Anna is torn between following Sam or staying behind in the safety of her everyday life. But her father pushes her to flee, making Sam promise to keep her away from the Branch, at all costs. There’s just one problem. Sam and the boys don’t remember anything before living in the lab—not even their true identities.

Now on the run, Anna soon discovers that she and Sam are connected in more ways than either of them expected. And if they’re both going to survive, they must piece together the clues of their past before the Branch catches up to them and steals it all away

My Thoughts:
I finished this book in English class, today and I literally gasped near the end, when a bunch on action was going on! (NO SPOILERS) Everyone stared at me weird because of it! I've been waiting for this book since last year, and I literally counted down the days, till it came out. I wanted to go to the store the day it came out, but ended up going on the 5th of January. Except when I got there, they didn't have it....so I had to wait even longer....But I finally got my paws on it! And you cannot believe how much I enjoyed this book.
The cover was the first thing that caught my attention. A hot guy.....shirtless..... on the cover of this book. Who doesn't like shirtless guys?! I certainly do! I'm guessing it's Sam?
Altered is a well written story that can be enjoyed by a variety of readers. There's action, romance, comedy, and so many plot twist. And each character has a different personality, so to fit a larger amount of readers!
I really loved the characters. Anna was so easy to love. She was innocent and I loved how the reader got to see her grow more confident and bad ass. She had a thing for Sam, and Sam was honestly pretty perfect. I mean, he was tough and knew how to fight and took care of Anna. He was the best. Simply.
And Cas! My favorite quirky, baby-faced monster. This guy was awesome, you know? He always thought about food, which I found funny.....but then it started bothering me a little, since I kept getting hungry....(ohhh licorice)!
Nick isn't as bad as he seems. I actually really liked his character. Yes, he snaps at Anna and doesn't seem to like her throughout the book, but underneath the tough guy attitude, and asshole personality, there's that boy that was just taught to act this way, you know? I felt for him! Trev was a little plain for me,but he did stand out with his quote-reciting! Plus, he was Annas best friend!
Here, you have FOUR guys that'll make ya swoon, even make you LOL. They're a bit more PG-13 than The Hunger Games & Divergent because of the language. Which I actually appreciate. It's sortta a pet peeve of mine when an author skirts around profanity. Teens these days curse 24/7. For example, they constantly give you lines like, "I caught him staring at my bottom." or worse- The guy will say something like that.........ASS!! JUST SAY ASS! On some level, it makes everything less believable. Plus, here, these are badass soldiers, it would eff up their street cred if they DIDN'T cuss.
In a nutshell, this book was great! The only problem I had with the book, was when Anna and Sam couldn't figure out that the "X's" and "I's" in the beginning of the code, where roman numerals. It was a small detail, though! But I really liked this book. This book just came out this month, and I already want the second one! GIVE IT TO ME NOW!!

Quotes:

“We’re here to see Connor,” Dad said.
The woman nodded and hit a button on the control panel. “You’re set to go down.”
“Thank you, Marshie,” Dad said. He motioned us over to a door beneath the staircase.
Nick leaned in. “ ‘You’re set to go down’?” he echoed. “That’s comforting.”

“Cas whistled. “You are a sight for sore eyes, Anna Banana.”

"Damn,” Cas said. “You’re cranky. We’re free! You should be doing the Hokey-frickin’-Pokey!”
“I would rather light myself on fire.”
“Awesome.” Cas rubbed his hands together. “Anyone have some marshmallows?”

When I glanced at Nick, he sent a withering glare my way and I shifted back around.
“Don’t mind him,” Cas said. “He doesn’t know how to spell.”
Trev suppressed a snicker.
