Waiting on Wednesday (4)

That Time I Joined The Circus
by J.J. Howard
April 1st 2013

Lexi Ryan just ran away to join the circus, but not on purpose. A music-obsessed, slightly snarky New York City girl, Lexi is on her own. After making a huge mistake--and facing a terrible tragedy--Lexi has no choice but to track down her long-absent mother. Rumor has it that Lexi's mom is somewhere in Florida with a traveling circus. When Lexi arrives at her new, three-ring reality, her mom isn't there . . . but her destiny might be. Surrounded by tigers, elephants, and trapeze artists, Lexi finds some surprising friends and an even more surprising chance at true love. She even lucks into a spot as the circus's fortune teller, reading tarot cards and making predictions. But then Lexi's ex-best friend from home shows up, and suddenly it's Lexi's own future that's thrown into question. With humor, wisdom, and a dazzlingly fresh voice, this debut reminds us of the magic of circus tents, city lights, first kisses, and the importance of an excellent playlist.(

Isn't that a beautiful cover! The thing that caught my eye, where the elephants! I LOVE LOVE LOVE elephants! Well, this is what I'm waiting for? How about you?

When a final attempt at popularity fails, Elise nearly gives up. Then she stumbles upon a warehouse party where she meets Vicky, a girl in a band who accepts her; Char, a cute, yet mysterious disc jockey; Pippa, a carefree spirit from England; and most importantly, a love for DJing. Book Review: City of Glass (The Mortal Instruments #3) by Cassandra Clare

To save her mother's life, Clary must travel to the City of Glass, the ancestral home of the Shadowhunters - never mind that entering the city without permission is against the Law, and breaking the Law could mean death. To make things worse, she learns that Jace does not want her there, and Simon has been thrown in prison by the Shadowhunters, who are deeply suspicious of a vampire who can withstand sunlight. As Clary uncovers more about her family's past, she finds an ally in mysterious Shadowhunter Sebastian. With Valentine mustering the full force of his power to destroy all Shadowhunters forever, their only chance to defeat him is to fight alongside their eternal enemies. But can Downworlders and Shadowhunters put aside their hatred to work together? While Jace realizes exactly how much he's willing to risk for Clary, can she harness her newfound powers to help save the Glass City - whatever the cost? Love is a mortal sin and the secrets of the past prove deadly as Clary and Jace face down Valentine in the final installment of the New York Times bestselling trilogy The Mortal Instruments.
Rate: 5 out of 5 stars

My thoughts:
OMG.....I can't even handle my life right now. This book was mind blowing. Definitely my favorite one in the series! Enough jibber jabber...on to the review!
City of Glass is the third book in the Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare. The book picks up shortly after the ending of City of ashes. Clary is on a mission to find a way to wake her mother up from the coma that she is under, and the only way is to go to Alecante, the ancestral home of the Shadowhunters. There's just one problem.....Jace refuses to allow her to go, and so he, and the Lightwoods, leave without her, while accidentally taking Simon along. Clary eventually finds her way to Alicante, the City of Glass, and is thrown in the middle of the largest battle the Shadowhunters have ever had to face.
The characters in this book really don't change much from the first two books. Clary is the same brave stubborn red haired girl that we've read about hundreds of times. Except that, I feel like she grew just a little in this book. She finally visits the place where all the shodowhunters call home, and meets a bunch of new characters. I saw most of her growth near the end of the book, when she confesses to the Clave about her power to make new runes. She starts taking lead, and helps shadowhunters and downworlders join together.
Jace goes threw alot of changes in this book, also. Most weren't all that great. Jace starts off trying to convince Simon into telling Clary to stay in New York, instead of going to Alicante. The reason being that he fears that she will be used as a weapon, and her life could possibly be put at risk. Jace also tries to get Clary to leave home, by being a total asshole, and yelling at her, but that doesn't work. Later on in the book, Jace confesses to Clary that he will always love her, and Clary feeling the same way, sleeps with him. WAIT! I mean sleeping....as in "ZZZZZ". Not sex. They were literally sleeping, while holding hands. Don't get any ideas guys. That part was actually my favorite Clary and Jace moment. I loved it!!! Awwww!! <3 <3
We meet a new character in this book named Sebastian, which may I mention, is a creep. In the very begging of the book, I kinda liked him. I even started thinking that Cassandra Clare was gonna make another love triangle between Sebastian, Clary and Jace, but that small idea slowly went down hill as the book progressed. I could literally FEEL the hatred rise up, as i read more and more about Sebastian. I sorta caught on with who he REALLY was around the time he and Clary went to go find Regnor Fell.
And the thing i loved the very most in this book was ALEC AND MAGNUS! Omg....it was amazing. Alec finally comes out to everyone. And Magnus and Alec are all lovey dovey and smoochy.
Cassandra Clare did a fantastic job with this book. I absolutely loved this book so much! Her writing style was really good, and I loved where she took the story. And the information that was revealed in this book blew my mind. I can honestly say, that Cassandra Clare is one of my favorite authors! <3

Quotes:

“There is no pretending," Jace said with absolute clarity. "I love you, and I will love you until I die, and if there is life after that, I'll love you then.”
Cassandra Clare, City of Glass

“I am a man" he told her, "and men do not consume pink beverages. Get thee gone woman, and bring me something brown.”
Cassandra Clare, City of Glass

“Malachi scowled. "I don't remember the Clave inviting you into the Glass City, Magnus Bane."
"They didn't," Magnus said. "Your wards are down."
"Really?" the Consul's voice dripped sarcasm. "I hadn't noticed."
Magnus looked concerned. "That's terrible. Someone should have told you." He glanced at Luke. "Tell him the wards are down.”
Cassandra Clare, City of Glass

“You said you were going for a walk!? What kind of walk takes six hours?"
"A long one?”
Cassandra Clare, City of Glass

“Patience, grasshopper," said Maia. "Good things come to those who wait."
"I always thought that was 'Good things come to those who do the wave,'" said Simon. "No wonder I've been so confused all my life.”
Cassandra Clare, City of Glass

Expected Publication: April 12th 2013

Genre: YA Romance/Dystopia

Synopsis:
The timepiece ticks and the hour wanes...

The day fades and the night weakens, bringing with it a new dawn we may never see.

The annihilation of New Haven was only the beginning. With King Cyrus still on the loose and a forbidden past still yet to be discovered, Echo Abbeny is finding that her entire existence relies solely on one thing—the acceptance of her gifts as hybrid and the godly abilities she can’t even begin to understand. Or control. Ayden and Kahl are both destined for her love and won’t stop until they’ve claimed her heart, and they’re proving to be an even greater temptation than she could have ever dreamed. And when rumors of a mysterious kingdom in the Sunken City begin to spread like wildfire, spurring chaos between the Xavians, the race against the King and the clock begins…

In the third and final installment of The Bleeding Heart Trilogy, the hour is of the essence, every move will be watched, and death lurks at every corner. A war will be fought and there will be blood to pay. As one of the last oracles on earth, Echo will have to trust herself like never before.

EXCERPT

"Want to tell me what’s going on here?" Jakob asked from beside me.
I guffawed. "You mean beside the fact that he locked Echo and I up underground for days and somehow filled her head with his shit?" I rolled my eyes and pinched the bridge of my nose. "If not that, there’s nothing else."
"Bastard," I heard Kahl grumble.
"Coward," I shot back, my eyes burning with the challenge.
"Fool."
"Ass."
"R—" Kahl closed the small space between us and gripped my shoulders, pushing me into a wall. "I didn’t have to do much for her to remember!" he rushed to say, a gritted whisper. "But you made her forget—forget me, forget everything. If she wasn’t so foolhardily infatuated with you, you wouldn’t even be alive right now…"
My jaw clenched as the people walking by stopped to stare at us. Conroy, Jakob and the others had slowed to turn back.
"So that’s what this is about. Echo? And not just her, but your past with her." I shook my head and smiled. "Since we haven’t much time to spare with your idiocy, stop thinking you’re the only one who can help her, Zimmerman," I grounded. "Infatuation? Were you not the one who had us in cages? I know we just met, but by my book, dragging someone to your own personal Hell is not the way to soften them up." I kicked off the wall and came to stand in front of him. I was taller by an inch, give or take, and my fists clenched at my sides with the dire need to hit something, anything. "Stay away from her; her past with you is minuscule. Know you’re place, because it damn sure is not by her side."
I pushed past him, my shoulder knocking him off kilter, and averted Conroy’s gaze as I made my way to the front of the group.

"I can’t," I heard Kahl call out. I turned to face him and he did the same. "Stay away from her, I mean. I won’t."

UPDATE!

I am sad to inform that I will not be posting anything in the next couple of days. The reason why is because I had a death in my family. My grandfather lost his battle with lung cancer. That being said, I won't stop reading. He always loved the fact that I loved reading, and that makes me even more dedicated to my love of books and this blog. I will only be gone for a couple of days. A week at most. But I promise that I will have a review ready for you guys later this week.

Thanks you, guys! <3

***PS: I actually will be posting a cover reveal because I had told the author I would. I have to keep my promise, but that will be the only thing I post this week. Sorry.

BOOK REVIEW: Anna Dressed in Blood (Anna #1) by Kendare Blake

Just your average boy-meets-girl, girl-kills-people story... Cas Lowood has inherited an unusual vocation: He kills the dead. So did his father before him, until his gruesome murder by a ghost he sought to kill. Now, armed with his father’s mysterious and deadly athame, Cas travels the country with his kitchen-witch mother and their spirit-sniffing cat. Together they follow legends and local lore, trying to keep up with the murderous dead—keeping pesky things like the future and friends at bay. When they arrive in a new town in search of a ghost the locals call Anna Dressed in Blood, Cas doesn’t expect anything outside of the ordinary: move, hunt, kill. What he finds instead is a girl entangled in curses and rage, a ghost like he’s never faced before. She still wears the dress she wore on the day of her brutal murder in 1958: once white, but now stained red and dripping blood. Since her death, Anna has killed any and every person who has dared to step into the deserted Victorian she used to call home. And she, for whatever reason, spares his life
Rate: 4 out of 5 stars

My thoughts:
I'm gonna start of by saying that this cover is really amazing. Except for the fact that, in the book, it says that Anna's dress is completely drenched in blood. In the cover, you only see blood on the end of the dress, and on her legs, though. Don't get me wrong! It's still beautiful!
Anna Dressed in blood is the first book in the "Anna" series. The story is about a 17 year old boy, Theseus Cassio Lowood (aka Cas), that travels all around, from place to place, killing ghosts. With a witch for a mother and a ghost sniffing cat, he kills ghosts for a living. Ever since his father was brutally murdered by one. Then Cas is given another mission. To kill another ghost. Anna dressed in blood, they call her. The girl in the white dress who was on her way to a school dance, but never made it in 1958.  She was murdered that very night. She is now a ghost, who ruthlessly kills anyone who dares step inside the house she lived in. All except, Cas.
NOW....to the review!  Lets start off with the characters. Cas was a pretty good character, but he did have alot of flaws. He was brave and very confident, but I often found that his confidence went over the line. He was just plain cocky sometimes. Mostly in the beginning of the book. But you still sortta see it in the whole book.
Anna was by far my favorite character. At first, you meet her as a horrible monster wanting to kill Cas and a group of teens. I don't want to spoil anything, but......SHIT GOES DOWN! (sorry for my language) Like I said, stuff goes down, and she starts acting like her normal self. She's actually really nice, and brave, even though she has a tortured past.
You also meet some characters that slowly become Cas's friends. Like Thomas, Carmel, and Morfran. I thought they were pretty funny. And they brought a bit more action and comedy to the story.
This book kinda freaked me out. I don't know if it was because I read it at one in the morning in complete darkness (except for my trusty book light), or because I'm a BIG. FAT. CHICKEN! But the plot was pretty solid. And the book wasn't too fast or slow. But i couldn't help but think that it was missing SOMETHING! I don't know what, but that was my gut feeling.
What kind of confused me, though, was the ending. Anna is gone, and Cas is supposed to be in love with her, but he acts totally normal about it. Like it's a casual Tuesday (or your preferred weekday). And the ending was a cliffhanger, yet it wasn't at the same time. All theses issues made me deduct a star.
To sum this review up, this book was really good, with a few minor flaws. I'm sure most people would love to read this book, as long as you like the whole killing and murdering aspect of the book. I certainly can't wait to read the next book. WHICH is already out in stores!

Quotes:

“You make me want things I can't have.”
Kendare Blake, Anna Dressed in Blood

“You fuck - you ate my cat!”
Kendare Blake, Anna Dressed in Blood

“But hey, at least we’ll have this strange story to tell, love and death and blood and daddy-issues. And holy crap, I’m a psychiatrist’s wet dream.”
Kendare Blake, Anna Dressed in Blood

“Yes. Smashing. You’ll be just like those four chaps in the movie. You know the one, with the oversized marshmallow.”
Kendare Blake, Anna Dressed in Blood

“I think of her again. Anna. Anna Dressed in Blood. I wonder what tricks she'll try. I wonder if she'll be clever. Will she float? Will she laugh or scream?
How will she try to kill me?”
Kendare Blake, Anna Dressed in Blood

“I come in all big and bad, and you use me for a game of handball.” I grin. “Makes a guy feel damn manly. She grins back. “It made me feel pretty manly.”
Kendare Blake, Anna Dressed in Blood
